Developement of Moneris

In the end of the 1980ies Dr. Behrendt, the originator of the model MONERIS recognized the important relationship between the catchment and the local water quality in a river. Analyzing and modelling the distribution of phytoplankton in river systems, he stated that the modelling of phytoplankton would only be possible if the origin of nutrient inputs is understood. In the following years he worked on the development of the nutrient emission model, MONERIS, which was firstly presented in 1999. In the context of further studies several enhancements and improvements were carried out, which finally resulted in a change of programming environments from Lotus via Excel and VBA to C# (MONERIS 3.0).
